In a dramatic turn of events last Friday, a brazen crew of would-be burglars attempted a smash-and-grab job at the esteemed 4C’s Finecraft Jewelers in Claremont Village. However, their plans were quickly thwarted, and they were forced to flee the scene empty-handed after a confrontation with an employee.

The audacious heist was captured on the store’s security video, revealing a chilling sequence of events. At approximately 1 p.m., a single suspect stood guard at the front door, knowing full well that an employee was required to open it following a similar incident in January 2022. In a coordinated effort, three or four individuals, armed with hammers and small plastic trashcans, raced past the sentinel and rushed into the jewelry store.

Inside, they were met with unexpected resistance when the store’s vigilant employees confronted them. Realizing that they were outnumbered and outmatched, the would-be burglars made a hasty retreat and scrambled into a silver Kia Forte parked right in front of the business. Without hesitation, they sped off, heading west on Bonita Avenue and then south on Indian Hill Boulevard.

Authorities have released descriptions of the suspects, identifying them as Black males aged between 20 and 25 years, standing approximately 5 feet 8 inches to 5 feet 10 inches tall. They were seen wearing dark clothing and surgical masks, likely in an attempt to conceal their identities.

Curiously, this attempted burglary bears striking similarities to a prior incident that occurred on June 29 at the Diamond Center on 147 Yale Ave. On that occasion, three masked men carrying hammers stormed into the store, shattered display cases, and made off with an array of valuable jewelry in a waiting getaway car. These suspects were also described as Black males, aged 18 to 23, with slim builds, escaping in a newer model white, four-door Hyundai Elantra with dark tinted windows and an “Empire Works Construction” decal on the side.

Thankfully, in Friday’s incident, 4C’s Finecraft Jewelers emerged unscathed, with no loss of property or damage reported. The swift response and bravery of the store’s employees ensured that the criminals’ plans were foiled before they could execute their heinous intentions.

Claremont PD is calling for public assistance, urging anyone with information on either of these attempted burglaries or possessing surveillance footage that could aid the ongoing investigation to contact them promptly at (909) 399-5411.
